Join Chandra Montgomery and Shalonda Martin as they lead this special session on how to be an authentic ally. To fully understand allyship, one must learn and understand the history of disadvantages in the United States, systemic advantages of certain groups and barriers some may face on their journey to becoming an authentic ally.

In this session participants will learn:

About the systemic issues that result in bias and inequity
What privilege means
How to make actionable changes towards being an authentic ally for diversity, equity, and inclusion

Description

Speakers:

Chandra Montgomery is a fundraising strategist and certified diversity, equity and inclusion speaker and practitioner with more than two decades of experience in the academic and non-profit sectors. She is co-chair of the USC University Advancement DEI Council, where she is the director of pipeline and prospect development for Health Sciences. She also serves on the DEI Committee for Apra, the national association for research professionals in Advancement. Chandra holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Hampton University and is president of the Greater LA Alumni Chapter and regional VP of the National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc. She is also pursuing a master’s degree at the Gould School of Law.

Shalonda Martin is a data, organizational development, DEI, and leadership professional with over 18 years of experience. In her career, she has led teams at Pepperdine, UCLA, and now USC. She specializes in developing data quality programs, curating and designing DEI content, leading professional and organizational development efforts, implementing data management strategies, identifying opportunities for system optimization, troubleshooting operational issues, and implementing best practices. Additionally, she is a career and executive leadership coach with an emphasis on aiding women and minorities succeed in their careers. Shalonda has a Bachelors in Intercultural Communications and an MS in Management and Leadership from Pepperdine. She is currently working on her EdD in Organizational Change and Leadership at USC.
