Fri (12/1) at 12:30pm Book Club: The Veins of The Ocean by Patricia Engel

Inspired by Latinx Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15) and the desire to read fiction (our first four books since the re-forming of this book discussion have been non-fiction) from a woman writer, The Veins of The Ocean by Patricia Engel is our next / December selection.

The book, winner of the 2017 Dayton Literary Peace Prize, follows the journey of Reina Castillo as she leaves Cartagena for the Florida Keys, seeking a life free of the self-imposed blame she feels for the crime that her brother committed, for which he is serving a life sentence. In the states, she meets Nesto, a Cuban exile, and together they find “solace in the beauty and power of the natural world, and in one another.”

Join the discussion online on Friday, December 2nd (the last day of classes), 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
