Zea Borok, MD
Dr. Borok is Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (DPCCSM) at the Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Borok’s research program focuses on function and differentiation of alveolar epithelium in health and disease as well as the role of the epithelium in lung fibrosis. Her clinical interests are in critical care, acute lung injury and lung fibrosis. She has been continuously funded by the NIH since 1993, and has been the recipient of both a MERIT award and R35 Outstanding Investigator Award. She is an elected member of the Association of American Physicians, and has been recognized by the American Thoracic Society with a Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishment and the Elizabeth Rich Award for significant contributions by an outstanding woman to pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. Dr. Borok recently completed the Drexel University Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program. As part of this program she and the Dean of the KSOM collaborated to establish the Center for Gender Equity in Medicine and Science (GEMS), of which Dr. Borok is the inaugural director.
Rima Jubran, MD, MPH
Dr. Jubran is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine. She is the Director of Graduate Medical Education and the Designated Institutional Official at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). In this role she oversees all the physician training programs at CHLA. In addition, she is the medical director of the Retinoblastoma Program in the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases, where she cares for children with central nervous system tumors, retinoblastoma and neuroblastoma. She also serves as co-chair of the Leadership Development Working Group for the Center for Gender Equity in Medicine and Science (GEMS). Dr. Jubran has received multiple teaching and mentoring awards including the USC Mentoring Award for Faculty Mentoring Faculty and Graduate Students, the Walter Laug Award for Teaching and Mentorship (awarded by the Pediatric hematology/oncology fellows at CHLA) and the Outstanding Teaching in Professionalism in the Practice of Medicine award (awarded by the Keck medical students).
Parveen Parmar, MD, MPH
Dr. Parmar is an Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine and Chief of the Division of Global Emergency Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine. She also serves as co-chair of the Sexual Harassment Working Group for the Center for Gender Equity in Medicine and Science (GEMS). Dr. Parmar’s research has focused on the study of health and human rights violations in refugees and internally displaced populations. Dr. Parmar has supported health care for refugees and other vulnerable persons globally in multiple settings–on issues such as emergency care delivery, maternal and child health, gender-based violence, and primary care provision. In January 2017, Dr. Parmar founded Southern California Physicians for Health Equity, a group committed to protecting access to care for all patients, including undocumented immigrants; protecting gains made by the ACA; advocating for single payer health care; and advocating for politicians and legislation that serve patients’ needs.
Daphne Walker, MD
Dr. Walker worked as a community diagnostic radiologist for nine years before joining the clinical faculty at USC. Prior to her appointment she worked with MEMRAD Medical Group at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where she was recognized for her contributions in breast health and her efforts in helping to create a state-of-the-art digital breast center. Dr. Walker has special clinical interests in women’s and body imaging. Her current research interests include thyroid ultrasound imaging in fetal and maternal medicine. Dr. Walker serves as Co-Chair of the Equity & Representation Working Group for the Center for Gender Equity in Medicine & Science (GEMS).
